NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, part of the Children’s Hospital of New York, brings comprehensive pediatric care to families in Washington Heights — from complex neonatal and critical care to all pediatric subspecialties. 

Located in Upper Manhattan, we are New York City’s only hospital dedicated solely to the care of children, and one of the largest providers of advanced children's health services in the tri-state area. Our hospital is also a major international referral center, offering unmatched pediatric care and expertise from world-class doctors from Columbia.

Our children’s hospital features: 

  • Expert heart surgery for pediatrics, including one of the nation's first infant cardiac intensive care units (ICU) 
  • Our distinguished Pediatric Epilepsy Center — a major referral site for children with hard-to-control seizures 
  • A 70-bed Level lV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for premature and high-risk infants

A family-centered approach to care

At NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, we understand that your child's illness or injury affects your entire family. Our certified child life specialists provide family-centered care to address your needs and those of your child, your other children, and other family members. As vital members of your child's healthcare team, we develop an individualized plan of care to provide emotional support, prepare and educate you and your child about procedures and the hospital experience, provide therapeutic play, and foster creative expression.

Social work services

The social workers at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital are key members of each child's healthcare team, working with children and their families to help manage the complexities of the hospital stay. With decades of experience, our social workers are committed to educating parents, serving as advocates, and facilitating communication during and after the hospital stay. They perform psychosocial assessments, provide counseling and support to help you and your family cope with the emotional stresses of illness and hospitalization, assist with discharge planning to ensure continuity of care for your child, and provide referrals to community services and resources. 

Social workers are available on site at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in a variety of areas from 8 am to midnight on weekdays and from 8:30 am to 5 pm on weekends. The members of our department represent a wide range of cultures. The languages spoken by our staff include Spanish, Hebrew, Italian, Haitian Creole, and French.

Ask the unit assistant, bedside nurse, or medical team to page the social worker. Call and ask for the appropriate social worker to contact you.

Child life specialists

The Child Life program at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital provides emotional and psychosocial care to help make the hospital experience as manageable as possible for children and their families. 

Certified child life specialists are trained professionals with expertise in child development. They are experts at helping infants, children, youth, and families cope with the stress and uncertainty of acute and chronic illness, injury, trauma, disability, loss, and bereavement.

Family Resource Center

Charna’s Kids Club

A therapeutic program where your other children (ages 5 and older) can enjoy arts and crafts, music, drama, special events, group games, and other activities.

NYC Hospital School Program

Hospitalized children in grades K through 12 can keep up with their studies through the hospital’s school program, which provides a teacher certified through the New York City Department of Education. In addition to providing classroom or bedside instruction on-site, the program maintains a close liaison with your child’s home school and facilitates the provision of remedial help or tutoring as needed. Teachers also help prepare and administer city- and state-required tests, including Regents exams, the SAT, and the GED exam.

Children's Helping Advisory Team (C.H.A.T.)

A group of teen patients who advise the hospital on how to improve the medical experience.

Family Advisory Council

A group of parents, hospital staff, and faculty who work together to make the hospital a better place for children and families and promotes family-centered care. Learn more here.

Radio Lollipop

Radio Lollipop believes in the healing power of play by providing smiles and laughter to children at a time when they need it most. Volunteers have been especially selected and trained to make a child’s stay in hospital more fun and less stressful.
