Sloane Hospital for Women, located within Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, provides comprehensive care for both mother and baby — from routine prenatal care to managing the most high-risk pregnancies, births, and postpartum care.

Our programs at the Center for Prenatal Pediatrics, the Mothers Center, and the Preterm Birth Prevention Center offer individualized care for mothers-to-be with high-risk health conditions or obstetric complications such as multiple pregnancies, fetal abnormalities, placental complications, or increased risk of preterm birth. 

NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital is a Regional Perinatal Center and is home to a Level lV neonatal intensive care unit - the highest designation available for NICUs. Pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists are readily available for consultation and treatment. Our infant cardiac unit uses the most advanced technology to support infants with heart disease.

Specialized care when you need it

The Carmen and John Thain Labor and Delivery Unit offers a comfortable, family-oriented setting for you and your family to welcome your new baby. Our 10 birthing suites are single rooms equipped with a multi-position birthing bed and fetal monitoring equipment. We also have several high-risk rooms that can provide acute and critical care before, during, and after birth for complex cases.

What types of births does Sloane Hospital for Women manage?

We are equipped to handle all types of births, from vaginal births to cesareans, singletons to high-order multiples, and complex births involving multidisciplinary teams of maternal and pediatric subspecialists. Some providers offer breech extractions of second twins and forceps deliveries.

How long is the typical postpartum stay for vaginal births? For Cesarean births?

Typically, our patients will be hospitalized for one to two days postpartum for vaginal births and two to three days for Cesarean births.

What is the NICU like at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital?

The hospital has a 75-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), which provides comprehensive care to extremely premature neonates and newborn infants requiring medical or surgical intervention. 

The NICUs are organized with a combination of single-patient rooms and groups of beds in pods. A parent is always welcome at the bedside. We have several quiet meeting spaces for consultations and family education.

When should I call my obstetrician?

You should call your obstetrician if you have any concerns regarding contractions, leaking fluid, bleeding, or if you are concerned about your baby’s movement. You can also call your obstetrician with other medical problems that arise between visits.

What paperwork do I have to complete before I deliver? Can I do it online?

If you have a scheduled Cesarean delivery or will be induced, registration materials will be sent to you electronically before your visit. When you arrive at the hospital, you can fill out the registration forms at one of our convenient kiosks. A patient ambassador will give you and your birth partner a registration wristband. Patients in labor will be registered on the Labor and Delivery Unit.
