Inpatient Physical Therapy

Physical therapists at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens offer services to the hospital's inpatients to enhance function, mobility, and quality of life. Their goal is to address each patient’s underlying impairments and help them achieve a full recovery, returning to their previous level of function or learning to live with limited function.

Physical therapy is available to our hospitalized patients every day from 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m. We also offer physical therapy after you leave the hospital, as well as services for any person who requires physical therapy on an outpatient basis.

Starting Therapy

We begin inpatient physical therapy consultations within 48 hours of a referral from a patient’s physician.

Examination and Assessment

Our physical therapists perform thorough initial evaluations. They then use the findings to develop comprehensive treatment programs and establish measurable goals.

A Team Approach

Our staff works together with other members of the healthcare team—including physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and case managers—to provide the best possible care for each patient.

Leaving the Hospital

In many instances, physical therapists assist in deciding when a patient is ready to leave the hospital. We communicate whether or not a patient is safe to go home or may benefit from the transition to a rehabilitation facility.
