Diagnosing a Stroke

Stroke Care from a World-Class Team

NewYork-Presbyterian doctors employ advanced neuro-imaging techniques such as computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to diagnose stroke. Other tests that may be used to diagnose stroke and to evaluate its effects on brain function include:

  • Tests to evaluate electrical activity in the brain, such as electroencephalography (EEG) and evoked potentials
  • Tests to assess blood flow in the brain, including CT and MR angiography and perfusion, sonography, ocular plethysmography, and digital subtraction angiography
  • Radionuclide angiography
  • Functional MRI
