Otolaryngology

Director: Jerry Huo, M.D.

The Division of Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat) at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens is one of the finest in the New York metropolitan area. Its physicians are all board certified specialists who employ the most recent technological tools for the treatment of conditions affecting the nose, sinuses, ears, facial structures and voice box.

Among the more exciting advancements in recent years has been the development of endoscopic technology for the diagnosis and treatment of sinus disorders. Members of our staff have been at the forefront in implementing this technology, and have developed are large experience and commensurate skill in its use. Through the use of these techniques, many troubling conditions can be successfully addressed on an outpatient basis, avoiding the need for the large operations previously in vogue for treatment of sinus disease

Surgery for destructive head and neck tumors including those affecting the larynx, or "voice box" are regularly performed by Division members. For more limited laryngeal disease, we are able to employ laryngoscopic treatment methods, often together with advanced laser techniques to preserve tissue and function. Benign diseases of the cords including polyps and granulomas are particularly amenable to such methods, and can usually be treated on an out-patient basis.

We are also able to offer patients with sleep disorders like severe snoring and sleep apnea modern interventions for relief of airway obstruction. Resources are available for use in the diagnosis, surgical, and non-surgical treatment of these conditions.
