The Operations Internship within NewYork-Presbyterian’s Division of Community and Population Health provides hands-on exposure to the operational infrastructure that supports community-based and population health initiatives. Interns placed in this role work closely with Clinical Directors and interdisciplinary teams to support the planning, coordination, and execution of programs that advance health equity, access, and quality of care.
Through this internship, interns will be able to:
- Understand how clinical goals set by Clinical Directors are operationalized through systems, timelines, and processes, and support the development or refinement of workflows that enable effective program delivery.
- Collect, organize, and analyze basic operational data to support reporting needs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the community.
- Collaborate with operations staff, clinical leaders, and community partners to support logistics, documentation, and cross-team communication, demonstrating professionalism and systems thinking in a healthcare operations environment.
Interns will accomplish by doing the following:
- Working directly with Operations staff and Clinical Directors on active initiatives.
- Assisting with preparing basic reports, participating in team meetings and check-ins, gaining hands-on experience coordinating across departments and using data to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
As part of their participation, interns will be required to complete the following deliverables:
- A concise written brief that:
- Maps an existing operational workflow (e.g., program onboarding, scheduling, data tracking, or cross-team communication)
- Identifies gaps, inefficiencies, or risks observed during the placement
- Proposes practical, actionable recommendations aligned with clinical priorities and NYP values
- Includes a simple visual (process map or timeline) to support clarity and usability
