The Maternal and Child (MAC) Health Programs at NewYork-Presbyterian represent a coordinated network of services focused on reducing inequities in maternal and child health. By establishing a dyadic system of care, these programs enhance access to routine healthcare, connect families to psychological and early intervention services, and foster deeper community engagement. Dyadic Programs include: HealthySteps, Maternal Mental Health, Postpartum Doula, Upper Manhattan Early Childhood Connect, Mom and Baby Bus and Reach Out and Read.

Through this internship, interns will be able to:

  • Support Program Implementation and Expansion
    • Ensure smooth rollout and scaling of evidence-based early childhood programs (Reach Out and Read, HealthySteps, Upper Manhattan Early Childhood Connect).
  • Advance Health Equity Contribute
    • to initiatives addressing psychological and social determinants of health, reducing inequities in care for children and families.
  • Facilitate Multidisciplinary Collaboration
    • Work with clinical teams, community partners, and multi-sector stakeholders to integrate services and improve outcomes.

Interns will accomplish by doing the following:

  • Program Coordination Organize and track program activities, timelines, and deliverables. Assist with onboarding and training of volunteers for programs.
  • Data Management Collect, enter, and maintain accurate program and research data. Develop screening tools and implementation of data collection for MAC-IMP programs.
  • Evaluation and Reporting Support evaluation of program outcomes and impact. Prepare reports for internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Research Support Assist with literature reviews, IRB submissions, and coordinate research-related documentation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Communicate with multidisciplinary teams and community partners. Help organize meetings, workshops, training sessions, and attend community events.
  • Administrative Support Manage scheduling, correspondence, and logistics for program activities. Maintain resource materials and assist with grant-related tasks.

As part of their participation, interns will be required to complete the following deliverables:

  • Program evaluation Design and/or implement program evaluation including objectives, methods (data collection/analysis), schedule, budget, reporting, and dissemination.
  • Survey and surveillance tools Design and/or implement tools for surveying and surveillance of population-based public health issues.
  • Literature reviews Prepare a literature review organized chronologically, thematically, or methodologically, and include conclusion/recommendations.

The Maternal and Child (MAC) Health Programs at NewYork-Presbyterian represent a coordinated network of services focused on reducing inequities in maternal and child health. By establishing a dyadic system of care, these programs enhance access to routine healthcare, connect families to psychological and early intervention services, and foster deeper community engagement. Experts across specialties collaborate, identify patient needs, and streamline service connections. The collaborative, consisting of an intake & centralized referral team, obstetricians, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, social workers, psychologists, community health workers, doulas, and more, work with community-based organizations and local leadership to promote community-wide health initiatives and strengthen support networks for young families. Program initiatives were first launched in partnership with NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and are actively expanding across Weill Cornell Medical Center, Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, and Hudson Valley Hospital.

Dyadic Behavioral Health, Postpartum Doula, Upper Manhattan Early Childhood Connect, Early Childhood Community Health Worker Program, Obstetric Community Health Worker Program, Mom and Baby Mobile Health Center, and Reach Out and Read.
