Giving To NYP Westchester

Volunteer at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester

NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester volunteers are warm and caring individuals who give back to their community. Volunteers offer their time, talent, and dedication throughout the hospital in patient care and clerical settings, providing an extra dimension of care to our patients and families.

Volunteer Opportunities

Patient Care Units

Unit volunteers bring another level of care and compassion by assisting patients and family members and liaising with the nursing and unit staff to prioritize patient needs. This includes visiting and talking with patients, offering emotional support, and helping visitors on the unit. Volunteers also provide an invaluable service by assisting the Nursing staff in fulfilling their roles and duties.

Available daily from 7:30 AM - 7:30 PM

Emergency Department (ED)

Emergency department volunteers offer social and emotional support to patients and their families. Through communication, companionship, and problem-solving techniques, volunteers can bring warmth and reassurance to a patient’s experience in the fast-paced environment of the ED, which can often feel stressful or intimidating. Must be 18 years of age or older.

Available daily, all hours

Gift Shop

The gift shop accepts friendly, pleasant volunteers to help put away stock, check and price new merchandise, and greet customers. Volunteers must be able to handle the cash register and work independently. Prior retail experience is a plus.

Available Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Clerical

Clerical volunteers play an important role in assisting in the efficient function of our hospital departments. Tasks include filing, faxing, answering phones, data entry, and typing. Computer skills are helpful but not required. Opportunities are available in different settings such as the main hospital, and in clinical and medical practices.

Available Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

The NYP Guide Program

The NYP Guide Program is designed to reduce confusion and help individuals as they navigate through the hospital. Volunteers may guide patients or visitors by walking with them to the area of the hospital that they wish to visit. If you like to give directions and put a smile on someone's face, this program is for you! Training provided. This position requires standing for long periods of time and greeting patients and guests.

Available daily, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Patient & Visitor Screening Program

To help keep our patients, visitors, and staff safe, Patient & Visitor Screening volunteers will assist in welcoming and screening all patients and visitors for fever and other symptoms, COVID-19 exposures, and recent travel history as they enter the hospital. Volunteers may assist with providing all patients/visitors masks as they enter the site and asking guests to perform hand hygiene. Must be 16 years of age or older.

Available daily, 8:00 AM-12:00 PM, 12:00-5:00 PM and 5:00-9:00 PM
