Our Approach To Care

Holistic and Comprehensive Care

At NewYork-Presbyterian, our urologists take into account the whole patient and customize therapy to fit the patient's unique needs.  We listen carefully to each patient to understand their symptoms and concerns. We take time to counsel and educate each patient about their condition and their treatment options, which may include medical, minimally invasive and surgical treatments. We use the least invasive therapies to minimize complications and recovery times for the best outcomes and quality of life.

Multidisciplinary Care throughout the Lifespan

Our urologists collaborate in multidisciplinary teams to enhance the care provided to women and men across the age spectrum for a range of urologic needs. To address the unique needs of women, our urogynecologists -- physicians with specialty training in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery -- collaborate with obstetrician-gynecologists to address women's pelvic floor conditions following pregnancy, childbirth and menopause. These conditions, such as incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse, can often impede quality of life. Men also encounter urologic issues as they transition through their lives, such sexual health issues ranging from erectile dysfunction to prostate cancer.

Urologic conditions can also be a sign of other health problems, such as diabetes or heart disease. Our urologists collaborate with NewYork-Presbyterian specialists in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Endocrinology, among others, to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care tailored to their individual needs.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Approaches

Whenever possible, our urologic surgeons use minimally invasive surgical approaches to treat urologic issues in a way that minimizes the physical impact and need for prolonged recovery periods. We offer robotic surgery, focal therapy, and minimally invasive surgery, approaches whose advantages include small incisions, less blood loss, shorter recovery times, and less post-operative pain. Robotic prostate surgery patients benefit from minimal impact on quality of life, including sexual function and urinary control.

Propelling the Field Through Research

At NewYork-Presbyterian, among the world's leading urology research centers, we are passionately committed to the pursuit of progress in the labs and at the bedside to improve the lives of our patients and extend the boundaries of what is possible in diagnosis, management, and treatment of urologic disease.
