Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy

The Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy Unit (OPAT) at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens is a hospital-based ambulatory clinic managed jointly by The Dr. James J. Rahal, Jr. Division of Infectious Diseases and the Department of Patient Care Services. Patients receive once-daily intravenous, intra-muscular, or subcutaneous medications on an outpatient daily basis. We are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year and provide free parking. Patients may be referred as part of discharge planning from a stay at the hospital, from the Emergency Department, or directly from outpatient physicians’ offices by calling the OPAT Unit. All referrals are reviewed by members of the Infectious Diseases team for appropriate entry to OPAT.

About Us

The OPAT unit opened in November 2011 serving several patients a day. We are located on-site at NYP Queens, making it convenient for all handicapped access as well as accessing on-site services such as radiology, laboratory testing, and specialist consultants as needed. Medications are administered by our highly trained expert infusion nurses and care is overseen by the Infectious Diseases team which monitors patient progress and helps to coordinate care with referring physicians. Our patients continue to express great satisfaction with their care and easy access.
