On April 26th, the New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) board of trustees, Hospital administration, staff and friends gathered with hundreds of NYM volunteers for the Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. The ceremony celebrated the contribution of NYM’s 1,232 volunteers, a number breaking the previous year’s record. All told, those volunteers gave almost 100,000 hours of their time to NYM in 2011, and over 40,000 of those hours were spent in direct contact with patients.

New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) now offers a comprehensive Lung Cancer Screening Program for the screening and diagnosis of lung cancer. The program features a multidisciplinary care team of pulmonologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, thoracic surgeons, and radiologists who collaborate to diagnose lung cancer. This approach streamlines the diagnostic process, and helps maximize the chance of a good outcome.

New York Methodist Hospital is the first hospital in Brooklyn to offer a minimally invasive treatment option for bladder cancer patients, adding to NYM’s growing repertoire of robotic surgical procedures. Ivan Colon, M.D., attending surgeon, Division of Urology at NYM, performs the surgery.

New York Methodist Hospital's (NYM) repertoire of minimally invasive bariatric (weight-loss) procedures recently expanded to include laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), an advanced surgical technique designed to help morbidly obese patients lose weight. The procedure is one of the many services offered by NYM's Comprehensive Weight Management Program.
