From our expansive outpatient programs in New York City to our world-class inpatient services in Westchester, we work with pediatricians, parents, and caregivers to ensure outstanding care and ongoing support.

Outpatient mental health services for children & adolescents

Outpatient services encompass treatment and support for mental health conditions that do not require an overnight stay in a facility. NewYork-Presbyterian features a wealth of top physicians and programming designed to provide essential care, so children, teens, and young adults can maintain their school or work routines.  

NewYork-Presbyterian’s outpatient services are centralized in three outstanding medical facilities: NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and Westchester Behavioral Health.  

Child Psychiatry Clinic at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center

The Child Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic offers an integrated care program with pediatric primary care physicians. We provide evaluation and time-limited services for patients ages 18 and under, including therapy (family, individual, and group) and medication management. 

Services at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center

NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center offers a range of outpatient mental health services for kids and adolescents, including:

  • Expert evaluations
  • Individual, family, and group therapy
  • Medication management
Services at Westchester Behavioral Health

Our general psychiatric clinic in Westchester specializes in the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with a full range of diagnoses and complex comorbidities, including:

  • Anxiety and related disorders
  • Mood disorders
  • ADHD
  • Disruptive behavior disorders

We offer the full spectrum of evidence-based treatments such as DBT-A, CBT, SPACE, family therapy, and pharmacotherapy.

Weill Cornell Medicine Pediatric OCD, Anxiety, and Tic Disorders Program (POCAT)

The POCAT program at Weill Cornell Medicine provides evaluation, psychoeducation, group therapy, individual sessions, parent sessions, and the option for medication evaluation and management. This intensive treatment program addresses OCD as well as non-OCD anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety, separation anxiety, selective mutism, social phobia, and other phobias. Our experts offer POCAT services in Manhattan as well as in Westchester.

Center for Autism and the Developing Brain

The Center for Autism and the Developing Brain, located at our Westchester Behavioral Health campus in White Plains, provides comprehensive care and support for people living with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and other developmental challenges. Our services include:

Inpatient mental health services in Westchester

Children often face stressful situations such as adjusting to school, social, and family pressures that may result in psychological conditions that cannot be managed in the outpatient setting. Westchester Behavioral Health is home to inpatient psychiatric units where children and teens can receive supportive treatment in a secure environment.

Our inpatient programs & facilities

Nichols Cottage

18-bed unit providing acute inpatient care to school-age children. Common presenting conditions include disruptive behavior disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders.

The unit is currently integrating M-BPIS (Modified Positive Behavior Intervention and Support), an evidence-based approach to addressing behavior in an inpatient setting. Ages 5 to 14.

2 North

21-bed unit providing acute inpatient care to adolescents. Common presenting conditions include anxiety and mood disorders, self-injurious behavior and suicidality, disruptive behavior disorders, and psychotic disorders. Ages 13 -17.

2 South

21-bed unit providing acute inpatient care to adolescents. Common presenting conditions include anxiety and mood disorders, self-injurious behavior and suicidality, disruptive behavior disorders and psychotic disorders. Ages 12 – 17.

7 South

Planned for summer 2026, 7 South will open as a 10-bed unit for school-age children ages 5 to 12 years. Nichols Cottage will become a second adolescent unit with 17 beds.

Partial hospitalization programs

NewYork-Presbyterian offers partial day hospitalization programs to help bridge the gap between 24-hour inpatient care and outpatient treatment. This structure provides young people with an intensive level of care and the comfort of living at home.

Our partial day hospitalization programs provide treatment for a variety of psychiatric conditions and combines many treatment modalities, including:

  • Individual therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Behavioral interventions
  • Occupational therapy
  • Medication management
Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program

An intensive 5-day program (9am-2:30pm) for youths with referrals for anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicidality. The program includes an OCD track incorporating:

  • A school component
  • Group therapy
  • Individual therapy
  • Medication management
  • Family therapy sessions.
  • OCD track with intensive, individualized Exposure Response Prevention services

The APHP program is available at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and at Westchester Behavioral Health for teens aged 13 to 18.

Intensive Outpatient Program

The Intensive Outpatient Program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center provides psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and case management services for 4 to 6 weeks for children 17 and under.  

The Westchester Behavioral Health Center also offers an Intensive Outpatient Program for youths (ages 12 to 17) referred from our emergency rooms, outpatient programs, or those transitioning from our inpatient services. Programming is both in-person and virtual. 

Access Behavioral Health Care-Diagnostic Evaluation Stabilization Center (ABC-DESC)

The Access Behavioral Health Care-Diagnostic Evaluation Stabilization Center (ABC-DESC) is an outpatient crisis/acute psychiatric program for youth discharged from the ED or inpatient units needing crisis management/stabilization before linking to 4 to 6 weeks of outpatient services.  

The ABC-DESC program is available at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University for ages 5 to 18.

Our inpatient and outpatient programs are run by highly skilled psychiatrists and psychologists with sub-specialty training in areas ranging from addiction to sleep disorders.
