Women's Health

NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester's Urology Department features doctors with subspecialty training in female urology — disorders of the bladder, urethra, vagina, and pelvis in women. Our specialists are board-certified in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS).

Our doctors have exceptional experience evaluating and treating:
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Blood in the urine
  • Overactive bladder
  • Stress incontinence, which may develop after childbirth
  • Difficulty emptying the bladder
  • Neurogenic bladder
  • Interstitial cystitis
  • Pelvic pain and discomfort
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Complications of mesh surgery (inserted to support the pelvic organs)

Using the latest diagnostic testing and technologies available, your physician carefully assesses your symptoms to make an accurate diagnosis and develops a plan of care to help you feel better and improve your quality of life.

Depending on your condition and the severity of your symptoms, your treatment may include:
  • Medication
  • Bladder retraining/biofeedback
  • Dietary changes
  • Exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor
  • Botulinum toxin injections for overactive bladder
  • Percutaneous nerve stimulation
  • Sacral neuromodulation: implantation of a small pacemaker that sends impulses to the sacral nerve, which controls the bladder
  • Reconstructive surgery to treat pelvic organ prolapse, repair a failed surgical mesh placement, or implant a vaginal sling (mesh and autologous fascial). We use minimally invasive surgical techniques whenever possible, operating through small incisions, which results in less discomfort after surgery and a faster recovery.
  • Repair of urinary fistulas
