High Risk Pregnancy (Maternal Fetal Medicine)

Women who have been told by their doctors that they are at risk for complications before or during pregnancy can receive all the care they need through our Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine. Maternal-fetal medicine specialists, along with expertly trained obstetricians and pediatricians, evaluate and treat women throughout pregnancy and manage premature labor with advanced tools and diagnostics.

Ultrasound screenings for the diagnosis of birth defects, and amniocentesis for the detection of chromosomal problems such as Down syndrome are available. Specialists in the Institute for Placental Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens are available to address placental disorders early, bring the pregnancy safely to term, and perform a delivery. The division provides antenatal fetal heart rate testing (the non-stress test) and fetal echocardiograms (in conjunction with the Division of Pediatric Cardiology).
