Liver specialists at New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) are pushing cure rates for hepatitis C to new heights using breakthrough medications recently approved by the FDA. The drugs, sofosbuvir and simeprevir, are taken orally. A standard course of treatment takes only three months, and it appears that it is successful over 90 percent of the time.

New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) welcomes families to “dance their way to health” at the Hospital’s Second Annual Day of Dance event on Saturday, April 12 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Check in begins at 9:30 a.m. The event will take place at New York Methodist Hospital, 506 Sixth Street in Brooklyn.

New York Methodist Hospital cardiac surgeons and cardiologists offer a new hybrid ablation (scar-tissue forming) technique can help patients with the most persistent atrial fibrillation (“A-fib”) to recover a regular rhythm of the heart. Whereas normal heart tissue is able to conduct electrical impulses—even if that tissue is the source of the heart's electrical malfunction—scar tissue cannot. This is why precise ablation of certain epicardial (exterior) and endocardial (interior) heart tissue can create a new, working electrical pathway.

Emceed by Miss New York, Amanda Mason, the Day of Dance featured performances, a wide variety of dance classes, and health screenings by NYM health professionals throughout the day.
