New York Methodist Hospital offers a free breastfeeding support group for new mothers. This group meets weekly on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Breastfeeding Support Group focuses on providing encouragement and information for mothers and their newborns, from birth to three months old. A certified lactation consultant leads the group. The meetings take place in the Hospital's Wesley House, Rooms 3K-C, 501 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital's Center for Parkinson's Disease and Other Movement Disorders offers a number of support groups for patients with neurological disorders and their caregivers. The Parkinson's Wellness and Exercise Classes will meet on Thursday, January 2, 2014 and Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 3:00 p.m., the Parkinson's Support Group will meet on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. and later that evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the Caregivers Support Group will meet on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. All Parkinson's support group meetings take place at New York Methodist Hospital, in Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free surgical weight reduction information seminar and support group. This month the group will meet on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Buckley 8 Conference Room and on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Executive Dining Room. During the first 30 minutes of the seminar, a surgeon will conduct an information session for individuals who are interested in learning about surgical weight reduction. A 90-minute support group meeting, open to pre- and post-operative patients will follow the information session. NYM will offer an adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification course. The course is being offered on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 9:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and will take place at Congregation Beth Elohim located at 274 Garfield Place, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital offers a monthly senior seminar series at Brooklyn College. The series features various clinicians from the Hospital who lecture on geriatric health topics. This month join NYM physician, Natalya Chernichenko, M.D., as she presents on the topic of otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat) on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Brooklyn College Student Center located at East 27th Street and Campus Road. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free diabetes support group. The group is run by a certified diabetes educator and is open to people living with diabetes, as well as those who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. The Diabetes Support Group will meet on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Hospital's Executive Dining Room, 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn.
