New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Breastfeeding Support Group for new mothers. This group meets weekly on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Breastfeeding Support Group focuses on providing encouragement and information for mothers and their newborns, from birth to three months old. A certified lactation consultant leads the group. The meetings take place in the Hospital's Wesley House, Rooms 3K-C, 501 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital hosts a free pulmonary hypertension (PH) support group. This group connects people with PH and educates them on treatments and new developments for the disease. The next meeting will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Hospital's Wesley House, Room 7A, 501 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free support group for individuals diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). The Living with MS Support Group offers information and a place to begin to discuss concerns, experiences and resources. The group meets weekly on Tuesdays in December from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The meetings take place in the Hospital's Buckley 8 Conference Room located at 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital's Center for Parkinson's Disease and Other Movement Disorders offers a number of support groups for patients with neurological disorders and their caregivers. The Parkinson's Wellness and Exercise Classes will meet on Thursday, December 5, 2013 and Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 3:00 p.m., the Parkinson's Support Group will meet on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. and later that evening at 6:00 p.m., and the Caregivers Support Group will meet on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. All Parkinson's support group meetings take place at the Hospital, in Park Slope, Brooklyn. In collaboration with St. Joseph's College, NYM will offer a lecture titled "Screen It Like You Mean It: Prevention Today for a Healthier Tomorrow." The presentation will feature a panel of medical professionals who will address what types of diagnostic tests are appropriate at specific ages and whether or not certain screenings can be avoided. The lecture will take place on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's College Alumni Room located at 245 Clinton Avenue, Brooklyn. Refreshments will be served. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free support group for patients who have suffered from brain aneurysms and/or subarachnoid hemorrhages (SAH). The Brain Aneurysm Awareness Group will meet on Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The meeting will take place in the Hospital's Executive Dining Room, located at 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Surgical Weight Reduction Information Seminar and Support Group. This month the group will meet on Saturday, December 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Buckley 8 Conference Room and on Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Executive Dining Room. During the first 30 minutes of the seminar, a surgeon will conduct an information session for individuals who are interested in learning about surgical weight reduction. A 90-minute support group meeting, open to pre- and post-operative patients will follow the information session. New York Methodist Hospital offers a monthly senior seminar series at Brooklyn College. The series features various clinicians from the Hospital who lecture on senior health topics. This month join NYM physician, Emil Baccash, M.D., as he presents "Osteoporosis: No Bones About It" on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Brooklyn College Student Center located at East 27th Street and Campus Road.
