Center for Female Incontinence & Pelvic Health
The Center for Female Continence and Pelvic Health provides care to women affected by a variety of conditions that can cause embarrassment and discomfort, including:
- Incontinence – loss of bladder or bowel control; leakage of urine or feces
- Prolapse – descent of pelvic organs resulting in a bulge or pressure; "dropped" uterus, bladder, vagina, or rectum
- Emptying disorders – difficulty urinating or moving bowels
- Pelvic or bladder pain – discomfort, burning, or other uncomfortable pelvic symptoms, including bladder or urethral pain
- Overactive bladder – frequent need to void; bladder pressure; urgency to urinate; incontinence or difficulty holding a full bladder
The Center specializes in the comprehensive treatment of these conditions and other female health disorders. Some of these disorders occur when the pelvic floor is weakened or damaged as a result of childbirth, heavy lifting, disease, surgery, or other causes. Our urogynecological services provide women with the care they need to improve the quality of their lives.
Physicians specializing in urogynecology may counsel patients on utilizing pelvic reconstructive surgery as a treatment option. First, a patient evaluation will be conducted using minimally invasive techniques. Our diagnostic capabilities include:
- Complex cystometric evaluation
- Diagnostic cystoscopy
- Ultrasound
If surgery is selected, many women can be treated with less invasive procedures, which offer faster recoveries and positive results. Noninvasive therapies are also available for pelvic and bladder problems. These include:
- Pelvic floor exercises
- Behavioral therapy
- Transurethral collagen injections
- Bladder instillations
- Medical therapies
