Empowering Our Approach: Marija Ringwelski
After her daughter Bellami spent considerable time in one of our neonatal intensive care units, Marija Ringwelski was inspired to support the transformative care we provide by joining the Maternal & Child Family Advisory Council (FAC) at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. The Council helps influence policy and procedures while galvanizing support for the care teams on campus. With Marija now serving as its chair, the volunteer-based FAC is dedicated to ensuring the community and the hospital work more in unison for the benefit of all.

What began as a simple hospital visit during Halley Griggs’s pregnancy soon became a roller coaster of emotions and emergency procedures, but with help from NewYork-Presbyterian and their own relentless optimism, the Griggs family and their daughter Charley were able to return to their Connecticut community healthy and ready to thrive.

Mateo Nuñez's Story
At just 11 weeks old, Mateo Nuñez had developed a massive tumor in his chest, 8 centimeters wide, pressing against his lungs, heart, and airway. He was diagnosed with neuroblastoma—a rare and aggressive childhood cancer. Today, he’s four years old and thriving. He loves basketball, trucks, baking cookies with his mom, and everything about Christmas.
Jonathan Lubin's Story
From his diagnosis at two weeks old, Jonathan’s life was shaped by sickle cell disease, a genetic disorder that causes red blood cells to become misshapen and block blood vessels, cutting off oxygen to tissues. Thanks to the expert team at NYP and the promise of pioneering research, Jonathan’s future is wide open and wonderfully ordinary.
