Established in 2003, the Lang Youth Medical Program at NewYork-Presbyterian inspires possibilities while promoting excellence in enrichment learning to students of Community School District 6. This six-year science enrichment program prepares students in the Washington Heights and Inwood school district to gain acceptance into college, explore careers in healthcare, and become future leaders.
Students learn through hands-on classroom-based and hospital-based experiences about topics in anatomy, physiology, pathology, and more. These students also participate in health science education and career exploration activities including hospital tours, and many Lang graduates go on to attend top colleges and universities throughout the country.
With continued support from the program, more than half of its alumni choose to pursue degrees in healthcare and public health. Upon completing their studies, many have returned to NewYork-Presbyterian to work, serve, and provide exceptional patient care to the members of their community. The power of philanthropy and partnerships with dedicated supporters like the Eugene M. Lang Foundation allows the hospital to continue to fulfill its mission of providing all patients with best-in-class care and transforming the lives of the communities we serve.
