Children are active beings. Jumping, running, playing, and dancing … they like to be on the move. When an orthopedic injury or disorder gets in the way, it affects their quality of life and can interfere with school and sports. NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital offers surgical services for a wide range of pediatric orthopedic issues, ranging from common injuries such as broken bones and sprains to more complex problems such as limb length deformities and scoliosis. Your child can receive advanced orthopedic care in Brooklyn, closer to his or her home and school.

    A team of specialists

Our fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeons work with nurses, nurse practitioners, physical and occupational therapists, orthotic and prosthetic specialists, social workers, and child life specialists in a family-centered environment to care for your child and support your family. In addition, your child has access to the various specialists who practice at NewYork-Presbyterian, ensuring that his or her medical needs can be addressed.

How we care for your child

We're parents, too. We understand that you're concerned about the effects of your child's injury or orthopedic condition on his or her comfort, function, self-esteem, and school experience, and we take a holistic approach to planning care. When we explain what we plan to do and what you and your child need to do afterward, we talk with your child as well as you, so he or she understands the care we'll provide. Our pediatric orthopedists are accessible to you and make appointments as soon as possible, typically within the same week of your call and often sooner.

    Comprehensive and compassionate care

We provide surgical and nonsurgical treatment for orthopedic conditions such as:

    • Fractures
    • Sports injuries
    • Scoliosis, offering bracing and Schroth physical therapy and surgery when needed
    • Clubfoot, providing casting to correct the deformity
    • Leg length differences and deformities
    • Cerebral palsy
    • Neuromuscular disorders
    • Achondroplasia (dwarfism)
    • Hip dysplasia, offering hip reconstruction surgery

Why you should see a pediatric orthopedic specialist

Children heal quickly from orthopedic injuries, such as broken bones. That's why it's important to see a specialty-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeon and to receive appropriate treatment early, to ensure that the injured bone or other body part heals properly. When your child experiences an orthopedic injury, our pediatric orthopedists recommend that you come to a hospital such as NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist as soon as possible to give your child the best chance for an excellent recovery.

    Pediatric emergency and urgent care

    • Pediatric ER. Located within NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital's main emergency room, the pediatric emergency service is a self-contained area staffed by physicians certified in both emergency medicine and pediatrics, and by registered nurses with specialized training. Everything in the pediatric emergency service is geared toward treating children and their families: all equipment is "child-sized," patient gowns feature cartoon characters, and the staff is sensitive to the needs of parents as well as children. The pediatric ER and its separate pediatric waiting room are open 24/7. The entrance to the ER is on the southeast side of Seventh Avenue at Sixth Street.
