Comprehensive Care from Conception to Birth
You can receive all your obstetric and gynecological care at NewYork-Presbyterian, including pre-conception counseling; reproductive assistance and family planning; prenatal care (including fetal monitoring, ultrasonography, and treatment as necessary); and delivery. If you or your newborn needs specialized medical care for other conditions or complications, we have highly skilled and experienced specialists on-site in every area to meet all of your needs.
Prenatal Care
We provide regular prenatal examinations; obstetric ultrasound for screening, assessment, and prenatal diagnosis, and to guide diagnostic procedures; genetic diagnostic procedures, such as amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, and cordocentesis (fetal blood sampling); and biophysical profile, non-stress test, and Doppler ultrasound for fetal monitoring.
Parenting and Childbirth Classes
Childbirth, parenting, and breastfeeding classes are available on-site or online. Examples include Lamaze and infant/child CPR. Classes are taught by a registered nurse and Lamaze-certified childbirth educator. Some classes are free; others require a fee.
Superior High-Risk Prenatal Care
If you've learned you are carrying a baby with a congenital abnormality, you can meet with our prenatal specialists. They collaborate with our renowned authorities in neonatology; pediatric cardiology, neurology, urology, pediatric cardiac surgery, and pediatric surgery; genetics; and all other pediatric subspecialties to care for and support you and your baby.
Obstetric Anesthesiology to Ease the Childbirth Experience
You'll have access to the full range of epidural and other approaches (including patient-controlled anesthesia) to relieve your labor discomfort in a timely manner.
Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs)
No one wants to think about her baby needing intensive care. But when the need does arise, all of our hospitals have NICUs on-site, offering the latest specialized neonatal intensive care and staffed by specially trained nurses, nurse practitioners, and neonatologists. Two of our hospitals are also designated by the New York State Department of Health’s Bureau of Women’s Health as Regional Perinatal Centers.
Serving a Diverse Population of Women
We treat women from all over the world, with a variety of backgrounds, ages, and co-existing medical conditions. We offer translation services for women and families for whom English is not their first language.
Umbilical Cord Blood Donation
Should you wish to donate umbilical cord blood, we have a program to collect cord blood and donate it to the New York Blood Center. Umbilical cord blood is a rich source of stem cells, which can be used to treat certain blood cancers and other blood diseases.
