Dr. Virendra Patel has been named chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Interventions and co-director of the Aortic Program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and an associate professor of surgery at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC), effective July 1.

Dr. Robert Burakoff, a renowned expert in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), has been named vice chair for ambulatory services for the Weill Department of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and site chief for the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital and Weill Cornell Medicine, effective Aug 1.

A new era of community-based healthcare was ushered in with the ribbon-cutting of a state-of-the-art surgical and oncology pavilion at NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital. Top hospital administrators, medical staff, and community and government leaders toured the new 36,000-square-foot space to learn about services offered at NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence.

During excavation near Sixth Street and Eighth Avenue in Park Slope—the site for NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital’s new Center for Community Health (CCH)—about 30 large boulders were removed from the ground and donated to the Prospect Park Alliance. The Park plans to use these transplanted pieces of quartz granite for its Parks without Borders initiative.

NewYork-Presbyterian and content agency, Pace, received two awards for HealthMatters.nyp.org, the Hospital’s new digital storytelling platform. Health Matters won “Best Series of Articles” and “Best New Digital Publication - Design” at the Content Marketing Awards, the largest and longest-running international content marketing awards program in the world.

Scientific innovator and physician Dr. Pawel Muranski has joined NewYork-Presbyterian and Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) as director of cellular immunotherapy at the newly established Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) cell production lab and assistant director of Transfusion Medicine and Cellular Therapy. He will also serve on the faculty of CUMC as Assistant Professor of Medicine, Pathology and Cell Biology, a principal investigator at Columbia Center for Translational Immunology (CCTI) and a member of Columbia’s Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center
