NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital Cuts Ribbon on Renovated Playroom in Pediatrics Unit

Brooklyn, New York
A newly renovated pediatrics unit playroom was recently opened at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. The renovation was made possible by a grant from the enCourage Kids Foundation.
“I am thrilled to cut the ribbon and officially reopen the playroom in our pediatrics unit,” said Richard Liebowitz, M.D., president of NYP Brooklyn Methodist. “With the generous help of enCourage Kids, we can ensure that our young patients have the opportunity to play and have fun even while receiving inpatient care.”
The brightly decorated playroom has increased space for play, more organized storage for toys and activities, and is more appropriate for all ages and developmental stages. The space also has a tree on the wall where patients can leave a paint handprint, joining the community of other children who have received inpatient care at NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.
“Being able to offer our youngest patients a playroom like this is important,” said Gaby Marden, child life specialist at the Hospital. “The medical care that our pediatric physicians and nurses provide is superb, and this playroom offers us a space where children can interact with each other, helping them to cope better emotionally with hospitalization.”
