1. Toddler Program

(ages 12-36 months)

After the diagnostic assessment, families with toddlers are invited to be part of our Early Intervention program for 12 weeks. Our goal is to offer "gap" services for families as they develop relationships with local community providers and to bridge that gap with the knowledge we have gained from working with the child and family in the first weeks or months.

Prior to joining this program, each child will have an Early Start Denver Model Curriculum Checklist completed to assist the team in developing appropriate goals for the 12 weeks.

What goals are addressed?

Interior windows at the Center allow natural lighting.

Our treatment team works with families and their toddler utilizing the Early Start Denver Model. Behaviors targeted include:

  • building language and social-communication skills (e.g., pointing and other joint attention behaviors)
  • developing cooperative and independent play
  • building adaptive/functional skills (e.g., toileting and eating)
  • increasing peer relationships
  • developing preschool readiness skills (e.g., identifying colors and shapes)
  • decreasing maladaptive behaviors (e.g., hitting)

What does the program look like?

Children come to the center two to three times a week with their parent or caregiver (with additional hours available depending on the needs of the child, where a family lives, and parents/caregivers' interest in participating in group activities).

Each visit involves:

  • the caregiver and child meeting with their individual therapist for a one hour session of coaching in social communication and play skills
  • the child participating in a "classroom" setting with other young children diagnosed with ASD where they participate in the ESDM programming and a group activity
  • parents and caregivers participating in a group activity
