PGY2 Psychiatry
This PGY-2 Psychiatric Residency in pre-candidate status offers a 12-month experience at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital at the campuses of Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Center, and Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The residency program provides diverse and extensive training in acute and specialized psychiatric settings. The objective of the program is to train future leading clinicians in the dynamic healthcare field of psychiatric pharmacy practice. Residents will participate in activities to develop the knowledge and skills required to provide evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team. Activities are designed to refine the resident’s abilities to educate other health care professionals, patients, and the community on drug therapy-related topics. Residents will develop acumen in conducting research and demonstrating administrative skills in psychiatric pharmacy practice.
Required Rotations (Tentative – 9 Rotations)
The following rotations will be 4-5 weeks in duration:
- Orientation
- General Adult Inpatient Psychiatry – Brooklyn Methodist Hospital
- General Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Intensive Care – Brooklyn Methodist Hospital
- Emergency Department Psychiatry
- Adult Consult-Liaison Psychiatry
- Pediatric Consult-Liaison Psychiatry
- Addiction Medicine Consult Service
- Ambulatory Care Internal Medicine
- Psychiatric Pharmacy Administration
Elective Rotations (Tentative – 2 Rotations)
The following will be 4-5 week rotations (elective rotations can be a repeat of a required rotation)
- General Adult Psychiatric Unit 2
- General Adult Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit 2
- Emergency Department Psychiatry
- Addictions Unit - Westchester Behavioral Health Only
- Child and Adolescent Psychiatry - Westchester Behavioral Health Only
- Emergency Medicine
- Inpatient Internal Medicine
- Ambulatory Care Pain Management
Longitudinal Experiences (Tentative - 52 weeks)
- Long-Acting Injection Clinic (1 afternoons a week) – BMH Integrated Behavioral Health Clinic
- Inpatient Patient Education Group
- Projects (1 MUE/QI project, 1 research project; 3 dedicated project weeks)
- Presentations (1 Grand Rounds, 1 Formal Case Presentation, 1 Resident Core Topic Series, and 4 Journal Clubs)
- Psychiatry Enterprise Formulary & Therapeutics Subcommittee activities (Once monthly)
- Clinical on-call activities (7-day coverage every 9 weeks)

Compensation and Benefits
Residents earn an annual stipend of $60,000. Paid time off is allotted for vacation/personal time, holidays, interviews, and professional meetings. Additional benefits include travel stipend for professional meetings, comprehensive health insurance, and subsidized housing (pending availability).
Staffing Coverage
The PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy resident will have staffing responsibilities (every third weekend) for the hospital practice experience.
