Employees who work at NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital are among the happiest in the nation, according to a recent survey of nearly 250,000 employees at 394 facilities nationwide.
The results released by Press Ganey this month show that employee satisfaction at Hudson Valley Hospital was rated in the 94th percentile or the top 6 percent when compared to other hospitals nationwide. The Hospital scored in the 99th percentile, placing them in the top 1 percent when compared to other hospitals in the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania region.
Press Ganey is a nationally recognized company that partners with health care facilities to measure the level of patient and employee satisfaction and improve their quality of health care delivery.
"When the results came back we were gratified to be among the top 6 percent nationwide," said HVHC President John C. Federspiel. "The fact that our employees feel satisfaction in their work is not only important to the well being of this Hospital, but to the well being of our patients. Employees who feel valued convey that to patients, and that is one of the reasons why our patient satisfaction scores are also consistently above the 90th percentile."
This year 87 percent of the hospital’s 1,100 employees took the Press Ganey survey. The survey looked at employee satisfaction as well as engagement or how involved employees are in their work. In addition to questions about pay and working conditions, employees were asked whether excellent performance is recognized at the Hospital, whether their opinion is valued and whether employees treat each other with dignity and respect, among other questions.
In 2006, Press Ganey awarded NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital a "Success Story Award" for a cultural sea change at the institution which drove employee satisfaction levels from the 28th percentile to the 97th percentile within six years. Since then the Hospital has maintained its high rating, remaining above the 92nd percentile in employee satisfaction each year.
NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital works hard to keep employees engaged by including them in the decision making process, by encouraging civility and teamwork and by recognizing and rewarding excellence. The Hospital each year adds professional portraits of exemplary employees to its lobby "Wall of Heroes" to recognize outstanding work.
The Hospital has also been cited by Westchester Magazine - as one of the top places to work in Westchester, and the nation, alongside corporate giants like MasterCard, New York Life and Morgan Stanley.
