NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital Celebrates Grand Opening of Carol H. Taylor Breast Health Center

Nov 5, 2014

Bronxville, NY

On Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 5pm to 6:30pm, NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of its new Carol H. Taylor Breast Health Center. The Center is the first and only facility offering 3-D mammography in Bronxville and has replaced Lawrence's former Women's Imaging Center. The state-of-the-art facility has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology and recognized for “Best Practice” in Breast Imaging by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. The Center was made possible through the generosity of the family and friends of Carol Hunter Taylor, who was a beloved and active member of the Bronxville community for 42 years.

Family, friends and Center supporters and donors will attend the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the facility built in Taylor's honor. Speakers will include President and CEO of NYP/Lawrence, Edward M. Dinan, President of the NewYork-Presbyterian Health Care System, Dr. Laura Forese, Taylor's husband Arthur Taylor and daughter Mary Behrens, a member of Lawrence’s Board of Governors. A blessing will be given by Father Michael Bird, Pastor of Christ Church in Bronxville. The ribbon cutting is planned for 5:30pm at the Carol H. Taylor Breast Center, which is located inside the hospital’s main entrance at 55 Palmer Road, Bronxville.

“We are very grateful to the family and friends of Carol H. Taylor and proud to unveil our new Breast Health Center that features the latest technology in breast health screening, high quality Radiologists from Columbia University’s Department of Radiology and a beautiful, spa-like environment for patients conveniently located close to home,” said Dinan.

The Center's new 3-D mammography, or Breast Tomosynthesis, allows Radiologists to see breast tissue in greater detail than was formerly possible; they can examine the tissue one millimeter at a time. Fine details that were once hidden by surrounding tissue are now more clearly visible, which helps reduce the number of false positives and unnecessary call-backs.

The Center is staffed by NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Radiologists and is designed to reduce wait times and provide patients with more access to radiologists and their findings. In addition to 3-D Mammography, services also include: digital mammography with computer assisted device (CAD); breast ultrasound; breast MRI and MRI-guided breast biopsies, bone density testing and digital stereo tactic biopsy.
