New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Breastfeeding Support Group for new mothers. This group meets weekly on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Breastfeeding Support Group focuses on providing encouragement and information for mothers and their newborns, from birth to three months old. A certified lactation consultant leads the group. The meetings take place in the Hospital''s Wesley House, Rooms 3K-C, 501 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free support group for individuals diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The Living with MS Support Group offers information and a place to begin to discuss concerns, experiences and resources. The group meets weekly on Tuesdays in November from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be no meeting on Tuesday, November 26, 2013. The meetings take place in the Hospital''s Buckley 8 Conference Room located at 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. Please call 1-800-344-4867 for more information and to register (required).

New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Insulin Pump Support and a free Diabetes Support Group. The groups are run by a certified diabetes educator and are open to individuals living with diabetes. The Insulin Pump Support Group will meet on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Hospital''s Executive Dining Room, 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. The Diabetes Support Group will meet on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Hospital''s Wesley House 6A, 501 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. The New York Methodist Hospital Cancer Support Group will meet on Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both a physician and a chaplain lead the group. In collaboration with Congregation Beth Elohim and Heights and Hills Senior Services, NYM will offer a caregiver lecture titled "Understanding Dementia When it Affects a Loved One: Recognizing and understanding signs of dementia, including practical strategies for dealing with changing behaviors." New York Methodist Hospital''s Center for Parkinson''s Disease and Other Movement Disorders offers a number of support groups for patients with neurological disorders and their caregivers. The Parkinson''s Support Group will meet on Thursday, November 14, 2013 and the Caregivers Support Group will meet on Thursday, November 21, 2013. New York Methodist Hospital will host a free health fair, marking World Diabetes Day. The fair will feature free blood pressure screenings, free glucose screenings, free dental screenings and free foot evaluations; a diabetes educator, a pharmacist, and a nutritionist will also be available to answer questions. NYM will observe World Diabetes Day on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Hospital''s Carrington Pavilion Atrium, 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital will also celebrate World COPD Day this November. Respiratory therapists will be available to answer questions about COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and offer free spirometry screenings. Giveaways and educational materials will also be available. New York Methodist Hospital will host a free lung cancer screening awareness day. The event will feature free spirometry screenings, blood pressure screenings, blood sugar screenings, foot evaluations, and dental screenings, an educational lecture, and giveaways. Pulmonologists and respiratory therapists will be available to answer questions; and baseball celebrities, Lee and L.J. Mazzilli will be there to take pictures and sign autographs. Light refreshments will be served. Appointments can also be made for NYM''s Fred L. Mazzilli Free Lung Cancer Screening Program (for those who meet the pre-qualifying criteria). The Fred L. Mazzilli Lung Cancer Screening Awareness Day will take place on Saturday, November 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in New York Methodist Hospital''s Carrington Pavilion Atrium, located at 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Surgical Weight Reduction Information Seminar and Support Group. This month the group will meet on Saturday, November 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. During the first 30 minutes of the seminar, a surgeon will conduct an information session for individuals who are interested in learning about surgical weight reduction. A 90-minute support group meeting, open to pre- and post-operative patients will follow the information session. New York Methodist Hospital offers a monthly senior seminar series at Brooklyn College. The series features various clinicians from the Hospital who lecture on senior health topics.
