New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) welcomes families to "dance their way to health" at the Hospital's Second Annual Day of Dance event on Saturday, April 12 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Check in begins at 9:30 a.m. The event will take place at New York Methodist Hospital, 506 Sixth Street in Brooklyn.

NYM is a member of the Spirit of Women network of hospitals and Day of Dance is one of the annual "Spirit" events. This year it will be emceed by the reigning Miss New York, Amanda Mason, and will feature performances as well as a wide variety of dance classes that will be offered for all ages throughout the day. Adult classes include zumba, soca, belly dancing and salsa, and children's classes include ballet, zumba, hip-hop, hula-hoop and Michael Jackson's famous moves.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to "know their numbers," with health screenings available until noon, including blood pressure and body mass index (BMI). NYM ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), podiatry (foot care) and nutrition specialists will also be on hand to answer questions and provide health information.

"NYM's Spirit of Women events are about engaging the women in our community and promoting social, mental and physical wellness, all while having fun," said Carol Vargas, NYM's assistant vice president and coordinator of the Hospital's Spirit of Women program. "Dancing on a regular basis offers numerous benefits for cardiovascular health, weight and blood pressure management, increased coordination and muscle strength, and an overall sense of well-being."

Admission to the 2014 Day of Dance is $10 for Spirit of Women members and $15 for non-members (registration for Spirit of Women is free and can be completed online at nym.org/spirit). To register for the Day of Dance, visit nym.org/dance or call 855-NYM-WELL (855-696-9355).
