Dancers from Balmir Latin Dance Studio conclude the Day of Dance.

On Saturday, April 12, hundreds of New Yorkers filled New York Methodist Hospital's (NYM) Carrington Pavilion to capacity for the Hospital's Second Annual Day of Dance. Emceed by Miss New York, Amanda Mason, the Day of Dance featured performances, a wide variety of dance classes, and health screenings by NYM health professionals throughout the day.

"Today as we dance, we are taking a stand against heart disease, the leading cause of death for American men and women," said Ms. Mason. "I hope participating in the Day of Dance inspires you and your family to make healthy choices that can be incorporated into your daily lives."

Highlights of the event included break dancing by over-50 hip hop dance team MOMZ-N-DA-HOOD, belly dance and cha cha from Brooklyn's Balmir Latin Dance studio, along with a few uncanny impersonations of Michael Jackson's famous moves.

"We're thrilled that the 2014 Day of Dance was such a success, and we look forward to continuing to engage the women in our city to promote social, mental and physical wellness… and have a lot of fun doing it!" said Carol Vargas, NYM's assistant vice president and coordinator of the Hospital's Spirit of Women program.
