Thoracic Surgery
Thoracic surgeons perform operations on the chest, including the lungs, esophagus, trachea, and mediastinum (the middle section of the chest cavity). At NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Westchester, our thoracic surgeons offer a large scope of procedures to treat diseases and disorders such as lung cancer, esophageal cancer, achalasia (a spasm of the esophageal muscle that impairs swallowing), gastroesophageal reflux disease (heartburn), and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Whenever possible, we perform these procedures using minimally invasive surgery, resulting in smaller incisions, a shorter hospital stay, and a quicker return to the patient’s normal activities.
