Thoracic Surgery
Thoracic surgeons perform operations on the chest, including the lungs, esophagus, trachea, and mediastinum (the middle section of the chest cavity).
At NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Hudson Valley, our thoracic surgeons offer a wide range of procedures to treat diseases and disorders such as lung cancer, esophageal cancer, pneumothorax (air or gas in the lung lining), achalasia (a spasm of the esophageal muscle that impairs swallowing, gastroesophageal reflux disease (extreme acid reflux or “heartburn"), and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating, which can be treated by relieving overstimulation of a nerve). Whenever possible, we perform these procedures using minimally invasive surgery, resulting in smaller incisions, a shorter hospital stay, and a quicker return to normal activities.
