The Hospitalist Service of NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital provides a highly skilled team of physicians who are specially trained in the delivery of inpatient care. The Hospitalist Service assists primary care physicians by providing their patients in the hospital with high quality coordinated medical care. This is especially important when a physician is unable to attend to his or her patient in the hospital due to any number of reasons, or if a patient does not have a primary care physician. Hospitalists oversee a patient's care during their stay and keep the patient's primary care physicians fully informed. Each of our hospitalist physicians is board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine. The Hospitalist Service includes multilingual physicians who are fluent in English, Spanish, and Chinese.

Hospitalists visit patients daily and can respond rapidly to changes in their conditions or to the results of diagnostic test results. In coordinating inpatient care, hospitalists are focused on communicating effectively with hospital staff, other specialists, and diagnostic departments, as well as with patients and family members. Patients feel reassured, knowing that they will be seen each day by an inpatient specialist who is in regular contact with their primary care physician. Upon discharge, patients return to the care of their primary care physician.

All NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital physicians are on the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College. Within the familiar setting of their community hospital, patients experience a level of care found in a leading academic medical center.
