Epilepsy Monitoring Program

Patients with epilepsy, particularly those with difficult to treat seizures or special issues such as pregnancy and women’s health; memory, mood, or sleep disorders; are now able to undergo extensive monitoring as inpatients in the Critical Care Unit at NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville. In collaboration with ColumbiaDoctors, the faculty practice of Columbia University Medical Center, the Epilepsy Monitoring Program uses state-of-the-art video equipment for recording the electrical activity of the brain. The technology allows clinicians at NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital and Columbia to observe any changes in a patient’s neurological condition in real-time and correlate behavioral changes to brain activity. This helps doctors make a faster diagnosis and more precise classification of epilepsy types for the treatment of epileptic and nonepileptiform seizures.
