Advanced Heart Care Closer to Home
At NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital, our heart care team provides a comprehensive range of services to diagnose, treat, and prevent heart ailments such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart valve problems, arrhythmias, and structural heart (valve) problems. Because heart problems tend to affect other areas of the body, our specialists also treat vascular diseases throughout the body, literally from head to toe.
From diagnostic testing to minimally invasive procedures, our physicians and clinical staff provide patients with accurate and timely results and inpatient and outpatient care using the latest technologies. NewYork-Presbyterian has the No. 1 rated heart program in New York State and the No. 3 rated heart program in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report.
A Team of Specialists
The heart care team at NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence includes cardiologists and interventional cardiologists who are part of the esteemed ColumbiaDoctors faculty practice and NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Westchester. They are joined by cardiac care nurses and nurse practitioners, physician assistants, diagnostic technicians, and others equipped with the skills and compassion to provide you with personalized care. If you need more advanced cardiac care, you will have facilitated access to physicians at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, ensuring seamless continuity of care.
Advanced Diagnostic Tools
We offer a full suite of cardiac testing services, including the most advanced cardiac imaging available, to evaluate your heart’s anatomy and function in ways few other centers in our area can accomplish. In addition to echocardiography, Doppler imaging, and other standard heart tests, we offer cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We have also developed a cardiac positron emission tomography (PET)/CT program — the first in Westchester County to perform myocardial perfusion imaging — enabling us to see blood flow to your heart in a way that no other test can show.
Expanded Catheterization Technologies
NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories are among the few in the county offering emergency cardiac angioplasty and stenting — a lifesaving therapy for people suffering from a heart attack — averaging less than 60 minutes from the time you arrive to the time we unblock your clogged artery (far faster than the 90-minute national benchmark). Our interventional cardiologists perform about 160 procedures every month, making us one of the most experienced catheterization programs in Westchester County. We also test for arrhythmias, implant pacemakers, defibrillators, and biventricular pacemakers and have implantable cardiac rhythm monitors. We perform interventional procedures to remove clots in the brain causing strokes, treat blockages in the legs, and repair abdominal aortic aneurysms.
Evaluation and Follow-Up for Valvular Disease
NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia's interventional cardiologists were the principle investigators of the national clinical trials establishing the effectiveness of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), a minimally invasive approach to treating severe aortic stenosis (narrowing of the aortic valve opening) in patients experiencing symptoms. TAVR is an option for older adults and other patients who can't have traditional aortic valve surgery. It is now also used for low-risk patients (age 60+) with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis. TAVR allows doctors to implant a device through a catheter (long, flexible tube) threaded through a blood vessel in your leg and guided to your heart. If you are a candidate for TAVR or another heart valve procedure, you can have all of your pre-surgical testing and follow-up care at NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence, with the TAVR procedure itself performed at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia.
Improving Heart Failure Survival
NewYork-Presbyterian has created the Centralized Heart Failure Management Program to reduce the number of return emergency room visits and hospital readmissions among people with heart failure released from the hospital. All of our hospitals, including NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence, are following standardized approaches to caring for people with acute decompensated heart failure — the onset of symptoms such as shortness of breath or swelling of the feet severe enough to require a trip to the doctor or emergency department or admission to the hospital.
Members of our heart failure team regularly contact patients with heart failure who are discharged from the hospital to help them adhere to their prescribed self-care regimen, such as taking their medications, following a healthy diet, being physically active, and monitoring their weight regularly. The ultimate goal is to help people with heart failure improve their health and live longer.
Helping You Recover from Heart Disease
NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence offers one of the only multidisciplinary Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs in southern Westchester County for people recovering from a heart attack, bypass surgery, angioplasty/stent insertion, heart transplantation, or heart valve repair or replacement. Our medically supervised cardiac rehabilitation services are available in a state-of-the-art facility at 688 White Plains Road, Suite 211, Scarsdale, New York (in the Vernon Hills Shopping Center). Most patients attend the program two to three times a week for 10 to 18 weeks and may schedule maintenance visits after that.
