Grant Application Information

The Heart Failure Research Institute was founded on a mission to advance the understanding, prevention, and treatment of heart failure. As part of our commitment, we award grants to researchers who are passionate about driving the field of heart failure forward.

All NewYork-Presbyterian, Weill Cornell Medicine, and Columbia employees are welcome to apply. This year, we were pleased to award three grants to deserving applicants. 

  • Snyder & Granader Family Cardiomyopathy Grant
  • Hariharan Heart Failure Research Program Grant
  • Peter and Margaret Sullivan Cardiomyopathy & Advanced Heart Failure Grant

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be healthcare employees at NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University, or Weill Cornell Medicine
    • If you aren’t a full-time faculty member, please include a collaborative faculty member in your application (working with a heart failure clinician is strongly recommended to help maximize the clinical significance of your project)
  • Applicants must be conducting research within the field of heart failure

Key Dates

  • Grant application window: January 21st - March 21st, 2025
  • Grant application deadline: March 21st, 2025
  • Award Notification: April 2025

How to Apply

You may request funding for up to $75K. The Steering Committee will award the final amounts. 

Please email your application to [email protected].

Your grant application should include the following, and be a max of four pages:

  • A biographical sketch (NOT included in the four-page allotment) detailing your experience and accomplishments. Refer to grants.nih.gov for guidance.
  • Specific Aims page
  • Background, significance, and preliminary work
  • Innovation of the science and collaborative approach *Include who is on the investigative team
  • Project approach
    • Overview of the study designs
    • Study population
    • Intervention, if applicable
    • Outcomes and rationale
    • Study Procedures
    • Data collection and storage platform (REDCap is strongly encouraged)
    • Statistical analysis plan, power calculations
    • Strengths, weaknesses, potential problems, alternative approaches
    • A detailed timeline outlining the project’s completion over the next two years
  • Budget; specify any overlapping funding.

Grant Recipient Requirements

Once awarded, grant recipients commit to several activities to supplement their work:

  • Upon completion of the award, a publication/presentation concluding your work is anticipated
  • Attend an annual in-person event to present an update on your project.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled “work in progress” Zoom calls with Heart Failure Research Institute mentors.
  • Acknowledge the donor support in any publications resulting from the grant-funded work (NewYork-Presbyterian will provide standard language).
