Message from the Program Director
Welcome to the premier Emergency Medicine residency in Queens, New York. We are thrilled that you are here exploring our website.
New York Presbyterian Queens is part of the New York Presbyterian Health System, one of the nation's most comprehensive and integrated academic health care delivery systems, dedicated to providing the highest quality service and most compassionate care to patients in the New York metropolitan area, nationally, and throughout the globe. Affiliated with the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, NewYork-Presbyterian Queens is a community-based academic hospital with a high level of medical acuity that serves one of the most ethnically diverse patient populations you will ever encounter. Our patients speak over 130 different languages and come from all walks of life. We are additionally an ACS-verified Level I trauma center, a Joint Commission primary stroke center, and an AHA STEMI receiving center that sees approximately 100,000 patient visits annually.
Established in 2003 and centered in the heart of Queens, the NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Emergency Medicine Residency is an ACGME-accredited training program that recruits 9 residents per year. Our mission is to train the next generation of clinically savvy Emergency Medicine physicians while exposing trainees to numerous educational and leadership opportunities that will guide them in their quest to be the future leaders and pioneers of Emergency Medicine. Our clinical curriculum is strategically designed to capitalize on our unique training center. We aim to take advantage of our unique ethnically diverse and culturally diverse patient population to demonstrate to trainees cultural inclusivity and varying disease patterns across a multicultural spectrum.
By taking full advantage of our clinically astute and academically driven faculty, we are able to deliver a well-established modular case-based curriculum that is designed for the adult learner. Trainees are instructed comprehensively while remaining highly engaged in interactive kinesthetic learning. The didactic curriculum is intentionally designed to provide a structured dive into the many realms of emergency medicine while providing flexibility for the trainee to explore distinct areas of personal interest. Whether you are aiming to be a front-line physician in the community, a hospital CEO, or a research-driven fellowship-trained academician, we will provide you with the necessary tools to reach your career goals.
I know what you are thinking. Is NewYork-Presbyterian Queens a good fit for me? What defines our program and sets it apart from the others? What are we looking for in a resident? If you are a happy person who wakes up with a smile on your face and comes to work ready to roll up your sleeves and see patients, all while providing amazing compassionate care, then the NewYork-Presbyterian Queens family is the perfect fit. Happiness is paramount when it comes to “surviving” residency. Let’s face it; residency can be one of the most challenging times of your life. So I make this promise to you: we will do everything in our power to make sure you are well and resilient, physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
Our structured wellness curriculum is designed for exactly that. Resident wellness is a high priority at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens. We offer a strong cohesive support network as well as opportunities for mentorship, collaboration, and professional development. Our Wednesdays are protected for both academics and wellness. Residents do not work clinically after conference on Wednesdays, paving the afternoon and evening for a variety of wellness opportunities. Situated in one of the most amazing cities of the world, NewYork-Presbyterian Queens is cozily tucked away in the urban jungle of New York City. Beaches, mountains, hiking adventures, and national parks are nearby and accessible to replenish and recharge. Given that the resident community is one of the most important components of wellness, we offer events throughout the year to connect professionally and socially with one another.
Thank you so much for reading about our training program. Please consider joining our NewYork-Presbyterian Queens family as you venture into the interview season. You will not be disappointed. Looking forward to meeting you soon.
