Your Care Team

The greatest strength of the radiation oncology program at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens is our staff. We aim to achieve the highest possible cure rate combined with the best possible quality of life for all our patients. Our team cares for you in a warm, compassionate environment and also collaborates closely with your other cancer care providers — such as medical oncologists and surgeons — to customize your treatment. Many of our staff members are multilingual, enhancing communication.

Radiation Oncology Physicians

Radiation oncologists are board-certified physicians with advanced training and expertise to plan and manage your radiation treatments, monitor your progress, and adjust your treatment as needed to make sure the radiation is on target while minimizing side effects. All of our radiation oncologists are on the faculty of Weill Cornell Medicine.

Radiation Therapists

Licensed radiation therapists work with radiation oncologists to deliver your radiation treatment under the doctor’s prescription and supervision. They monitor you during your treatment to ensure you receive uncompromising care.

Radiation Oncology Nurses

Radiation oncology nurses are licensed registered nurses who work with our radiation oncologists to care for you and your family during your radiation treatments. Several of our registered nurses are also certified in the specialty of oncology nursing and hold Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) designation. They discuss possible side effects, assess how you are doing throughout your treatment, and provide support and referrals to other services.

Dosimetrists

Dosimetrists carefully calculate your prescribed radiation dose to make sure your tumor receives the proper dosage. Since treatment plans are often very complex, dosimetrists work with your radiation oncologist and medical physicist to develop a treatment plan that is tailored for you.

Medical Physicists

Board-certified medical physicists work with radiation oncologists to plan and deliver your treatment. They oversee the work of our dosimetrists and also develop and direct quality control programs for equipment and procedures to ensure patient and staff safety.

Administrative Staff

Our friendly administrative staff facilitates your consultation and other appointments during your treatment. They are available throughout your treatment to help meet your needs.

Nutritional Support

Nutritionists and/or registered dietitians can help you maintain a healthy diet during your treatments. They can assist with modifying your eating plan if the side effects from your treatment are affecting your appetite, help you identify what you can eat, and provide recipes, menu suggestions, and information on ready-to-use nutritional supplements.

Social Workers

Our social workers are available to provide a variety of support services to you and your family as needed, such as home health care, transportation, financial support, and emotional support.
