Approximately 500,000 Americans are living with multiple sclerosis (MS), a life-long autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. To offer the latest in diagnostic and treatment options, New York Methodist Hospital recently opened the only MS Center in Brooklyn and one of few in the New York area.

Staff members, family, and friends recently gathered together to recognize the accomplishments of this years 14 graduates of New York Methodist Hospitals School of Medical Technology. This years class is the largest in school history.

The Division of Dental Medicine at New York Methodist Hospital and the American Dental Association will sponsor Give Kids A Smile Day! on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Children, ages one to 16, are invited to attend and receive free dental screenings, including sealant placement, cleanings, x-rays and more, if applicable. Educational information will also be offered. The event will take place in the offices of the Hospital’s Division of Dental Medicine, located on the first floor of the Kirkwood Pavilion, 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. It is estimated that nearly 100,000 Americans die from blood clots each year. These clots usually fall into one of two categories—thrombi, which form locally in the blood vessels; and emboli, which form in other areas of the body's circulatory system, break off, and are carried via the blood stream until they become lodged in a blood vessel. Thanks to a new catheterization system being used at New York Methodist Hospital (NYM), surgeons can literally vacuum up entire blood clots and filter them out of the body's blood supply.
