Since its first U.S. use in 2002, NewYork-Presbyterian has helped pave the way for the advancement of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for cardiac patients who are in need of a new heart valve, but are not candidates for open-heart surgery.

As part of the hospital’s ongoing commitment to provide medical aid to Puerto Rico, NewYork-Presbyterian is deploying a second Disaster Response Team to the island today, October 24. The team is part of a group of 78 healthcare professionals from the New York area, who are part of the deployment being coordinated by the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA).

Acupuncture decreased joint symptoms in women with early-stage breast cancer treated with aromatase inhibitors, according to a randomized, multicenter clinical trial led by researchers at NewYork-Presbyterian and Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The findings were presented at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, held Dec. 5 – 9.

NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital has been named an accredited center of care by the Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation (CCF), a national nonprofit committed to improving the health outcomes and quality of life for children with cardiomyopathy.

NewYork-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine’s annual Cabaret benefit dinner raised more than $3.6 million to support the institutions’ ongoing work in patient care, research and medical education. The event, which took place on Nov. 8, drew more than 900 guests to Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan.

Newer, non-chemotherapy drugs benefit many patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), an incurable form of blood cancer, and deserve deeper study in clinical trials, according to an editorial published Sept. 12 in Blood by scientists at NewYork-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine.
