Monday morning, NewYork-Presbyterian Queens celebrated the grand opening of its new, state-of-the-art Therapeutic Medicine Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The center is designed to serve the adult outpatient population; it provides a patient focused, relaxed and peaceful environment for patients receiving intravenous treatment for cancer, anemia and other medical conditions. The center will welcome its first patients on April 19.

Every spring, trees and plants release pollen into the air to fertilize other plants. The released pollen can potentially enter an individual’s nasal passages and trigger an immune response. This process affects millions of Americans and is commonly referred to as “having allergies.”

March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month – a time to learn about colon cancer prevention. If detected early, colon cancer can be treated and it can be cured. According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the second highest cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States.

St. John’s University and NewYork-Presbyterian Queens announced a partnership today that makes NewYork-Presbyterian Queens the official hospital of Red Storm Athletics.

Dr. David A. Fishman has joined NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens, serving as cancer center director, vice chair of obstetrics and gynecology, and director of gynecologic oncology. He also is a member of the Weill Cornell Medicine faculty, having been recruited as a professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Fishman was previously director of gynecological oncology research and a professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive science at Mount Sinai Hospital.

NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens Hosts Annual Gala

NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital recently held its 2017 Nurse Recognition Awards Ceremony. More than 130 staff members were honored at the ceremony, including 13 who received special recognition.

A technique to treat an irregular heartbeat that limits or eliminates patients’ exposure to radiation should be more widely adopted by physicians, NewYork-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine cardiologists argue in a new review article in Heart Rhythm, published in the June print issue and previously published online. They posit that the primary obstacle to the procedure’s widespread use – physicians’ discomfort with a different visual tool – can be overcome with training and experience.
