Dr. Fernando J. Martinez, a clinician and translational investigator who specializes in fibrotic lung disease and airway disorders including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, has been named chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center.

New-York Presbyterian hosted the 2nd Annual Safety in Spine Surgery Summit on Friday, February 10th. The meeting welcomed a diverse audience of spine surgeons and spine team members to discuss the numerous safety and quality advances being made in spine surgery for adults and children.

Dr. David Carr-Locke has been recruited as clinical director of the Center for Advanced Digestive Care (CADC) at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he will be reporting to the Executive Directors. He has also been recruited as a professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Carr-Locke joins the institutions from Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center, New York where he was chief of the Division of Digestive Diseases and associate chair of the Department of Medicine. He was formerly director of endoscopy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston.

On February 3, NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital recognized Go Red for Women Day, a national campaign sponsored by the American Heart Association to raise awareness about women’s heart disease.

Columbia University Medical Center, NewYork-Presbyterian and the Life Raft Group (LRG), a patient advocacy organization specializing in GIST cancer, announced today that they have entered into a collaborative research project to investigate the efficacy of a novel system biology approach for identifying the best treatment options for patients with advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST).
