Inpatient Psychiatric Services for Adults

For those suffering from serious psychiatric illnesses, and especially those at risk of harming themselves or others, NewYork-Presbyterian has several inpatient adult general psychiatry units at NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Division, and NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Our multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals provides intensive care to patients living with a variety of psychiatric disorders, such as:

  • Borderline personality disorder
  • Eating disorders
  • Major depression
  • Schizophrenia

Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at NewYork-Presbyterian Allen

The inpatient psychiatric unit at Allen Hospital provides treatment to adults who suffer from psychotic and affective disorders, including specialized substance abuse services for persons with both a mental illness and a substance use disorder.

Our multidisciplinary treatment team conducts a full evaluation of patients to develop an understanding of the psychopathological symptoms, the psychosocial context, the individual character and psychodynamic aspects, and the patient’s current life stressors. They then craft a personalized treatment plan for patients with clinically challenging presentations. Treatments offered include medication management/psychopharmacology, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), ego supportive psychotherapy, and recreation and art therapy.

Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia

Focusing on the psychiatric treatment of adults who suffer from complex affective disorders, personality/character disorders, and psychotic disorders, this unit treats conditions including depression, severe anxiety, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. Our multidisciplinary teams personalize treatment plans for patients with clinically challenging presentations.

Our internationally recognized specialists from NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia and New York State Psychiatric Institute are available for consultations on each patient. Treatments offered include medication management/psychopharmacology, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), ego supportive psychotherapy, and recreation and art therapy.

Inpatient Psychiatric Units at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Division

Weill Cornell Psychiatry at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester offers inpatient treatment to adults for the full spectrum of psychiatric illnesses, including general psychiatry, addiction recovery, eating disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, personality disorders and neuropsychological concerns. Reflecting the latest advances in psychiatric treatment, clinical programs are offered at many levels of care, depending on individual needs and severity of illness.
Inpatient units include:

  • The Outlook at Westchester. A therapeutic inpatient setting is focusing on recovery for females and males with eating disorders.
  • The Haven at Westchester. A hotel-like amenities unit that offers gracious accommodations and personalized services that enhance the recovery experience.
