NewYork-Presbyterian is currently negotiating a new contract with the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) for our nursing teams who support the following select hospitals and practices:
- NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center
- NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital
- NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital
- NewYork-Presbyterian Ambulatory Care Network (ACN - Columbia Affiliated)
At this time, the members of our nursing team who support these hospitals and practices have notified NewYork-Presbyterian that they plan to participate in a union-organized strike while negotiations continue. Our goal is to reach a fair and reasonable agreement with union leadership that reflects our respect for the important role our nurses play. We remain hopeful that we can accomplish this soon.
We want to reassure you that your safety and care remain our top priorities. We have taken the appropriate steps to continue to provide the world-class care that you, and the communities we serve, have come to expect.
For patients with upcoming appointments or elective procedures scheduled at one of the impacted locations, a member of your Care Team will contact you directly if there is a change to your care, which may include a new date, time, or location.
For patients who are currently admitted into one of the impacted locations, steps have been taken to minimize potential disruption to your care, including the hiring of temporary nursing staff from a New York State-accredited healthcare service agency, should a strike occur. During your stay, the nurses caring for you may change; however, protocols are in place to help facilitate a smooth transition of care. Depending on the complexity of care needs, select patients may be relocated to a new room/unit or may be recommended for a transfer to another hospital. In such cases, members of our Care Team will speak directly to patients and their caregivers about future care plans.
We remain committed to resolving this quickly, and we apologize for any inconvenience or concern this may cause. If you have any questions, please speak to your healthcare provider or ask to speak with our Patient Services Administration.
Thank you for your understanding during this time and for trusting us with your care.
