NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital is one of six sites in the United States to be awarded a five-year grant to incorporate community-based medicine and advocacy training in its pediatric residency program curriculum. The goal of this initiative is to expand the practice of pediatrics from caring for individual children in the office setting to one that encompasses working with whole communities to address healthy lifestyles, safe environments and nurturing families in a way that affects the health of the broader community. By training new pediatricians to build partnerships and share responsibilities with their communities, the health and well-being of children will be improved in a more far-reaching and effective way.
