Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutritional Care

The pediatric gastroenterology program at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital offers diagnosis and treatment of a variety of bowel and liver disorders in children. Some of these disorders may begin at birth, while others appear at various points during childhood and adolescence.

Problems commonly seen by physicians affiliated with the program include:

  • Blood in stool
  • Change in bowel habits (constipation or diarrhea)
  • Colic or recurrent abdominal pain
  • Failure to thrive
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Intolerance to baby formula
  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
  • Regurgitation or swallowing problems
  • Vomiting

Children with these disorders present a special challenge because, along with the medical treatment that they receive, they need special care to provide proper nutrition that ensures normal growth and development.

The Institute has board-certified specialists in children's digestive issues. If any procedures are required, equipment specifically designed for children is available to ensure safety.
