CIO Magazine has named NewYork-Presbyterian a 2016 CIO 100 Award winner. The 29th annual awards program honors and recognizes the cutting-edge innovations of companies that demonstrate excellence and achievement in information technology.

Adding a novel monoclonal antibody therapy to traditional chemotherapy increased median survival by nearly a year in patients with advanced sarcoma, a lethal soft-tissue cancer. Findings from a multicenter clinical trial of the combination therapy, led by researchers at Columbia University Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian, represent the first appreciable improvement in sarcoma outcomes in decades.

Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) has received a $58.4 million grant from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to expand its work in translational research—a multidisciplinary effort that aims to speed the discovery and development of new medical therapies. This grant is the third and largest Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) bestowed on the Herbert and Florence Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, a partnership of CUMC and NewYork-Presbyterian.

Joe Ienuso has been named NewYork-Presbyterian’s group senior vice president of facilities and real estate, effective August 1. An experienced and effective leader in facilities management, Mr. Ienuso joins NewYork-Presbyterian from Northwell Health, where he was senior vice president of capital and financial operations.

Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) and Weill Cornell Medicine, in collaboration with NewYork-Presbyterian and NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, have been awarded a grant from the NIH for approximately $4 million in fiscal year 2016 to enroll participants in the Cohort Program of President Barack Obama’s Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI)—a large-scale research effort to improve our ability to prevent and treat disease based on individual differences in lifestyle, environment and genetics.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) today announced that it has selected NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine to participate in a care delivery model that supports and encourages higher quality, more coordinated cancer care. The institutions join nearly 200 physician group practices and 17 health insurance companies participating in the Medicare arm of the Oncology Care Model, which includes more than 3,200 oncologists and will cover approximately 155,000 Medicare beneficiaries nationwide.

A deep-freezing technique known as cryoablation is a viable alternative to traditional surgery in many early-stage breast cancers, NewYork-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine researchers find in a new clinical study. The results are published in the Annals of Surgical Oncology.

The Center for Acute Respiratory Failure and Cardiac ECMO Program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and the Pediatric ECMO Program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital have been designated a Platinum Level Center of Excellence for the Excellence in Life Support Award from the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO, an international non-profit consortium dedicated to the development of novel therapies for people with organ failure).
