NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital now offers the revolutionary new CYPHER® Coronary Stent, the first drug-coated stent to receive approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of blocked coronary arteries. The new stent, which was approved on April 24, dramatically decreases the likelihood of restenosis, or re-blockage, of the coronary artery.

A new study, led by physician-scientists at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and the Hospital for Special Surgery, finds that atherosclerosis (arterial plaque) occurs prematurely and more commonly in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus).

Grann of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital confirms that for women who are at "very high risk" for breast cancer there is a benefit from tamoxifen for primary prevention, and that for these women, chemoprevention with the drug is cost-effective.
