From September 20 to 26, New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) will celebrate its 53 certified surgical technologists during National Surgical Technologists Week. Surgical technologists are an important part of surgical teams in hospitals across the country; when time is tight and a patient''s life is on the line, an outstanding “tech” can make all the difference.

New York Methodist Hospital offers a free monthly healthy aging seminar series at Brooklyn College. This month join Keerthana Keshava, M.D., director of interventional pulmonology at New York Methodist Hospital, as she presents Just Breathe. The seminar will take place on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Occidental Room of the Brooklyn College Student Center.

A new device now offered at New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) is providing patients with dangerous heart conditions a less invasive treatment option for life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythms). The device is called a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (S-ICD).

New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) recently opened the NYM Medical Associates of Brooklyn Heights practice at 50 Court Street, located on the border between Brooklyn Heights and Downtown Brooklyn. The new facility is built to house Hospital specialists in cardiology, internal medicine, gastroenterology, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, urology and vascular surgery.

At approximately 11:15 this morning, a fire started in a trash chute in the Carrington Pavilion at New York Methodist Hospital. The fire appears to have resulted from soldering during a necessary repair of the trash chute.

The week of August 1-7 is recognized as World Breastfeeding Week. To mark this annual global event, New York Methodist Hospital will host World Breastfeeding Day. The event will feature free educational materials and giveaways, and an NYM certified lactation consultant will be available to answer questions.

Festivities for this year’s National Nurses Week are underway at New York Methodist Hospital (NYM). The annual celebration began on May 6 and concludes on May 12, and gives NYM an opportunity to recognize the one thousand nurses and nursing associates who serve on the Hospital’s staff.
